Tea at home starts with one choice: a matcha set for whisking powdered tea, or a teapot set for brewing loose leaves. WENSHUO makes both in ceramic. This guide compares our matcha sets and teapot sets by size and by what comes in the box, with a simple method for each and notes on care.

Choosing a matcha set
Each of our matcha sets comes with a bamboo whisk, a ceramic whisk holder, a 19 cm tea scoop, a tea cloth and a ceramic bowl. The WAKI, Mizu and Originé sets use a 100-prong whisk; the Tateru set uses an 80-prong whisk. The whisk holder keeps the tines in shape while the whisk dries.
- WAKI, 575 ml. A tall bowl, 11.2 cm across, with a pouring spout, so you can whisk in the bowl and pour straight into a glass of milk.
- Mizu, 500 ml. Wider and lower, 12.2 cm across and 6.8 cm tall, also with a spout. The open shape gives the whisk plenty of room.
- Originé, 500 ml. A spouted bowl 12 cm across, in four glazes: Curd, Silent Taupe, Veil Grey and Ink Black.
- Tateru, 800 ml. Our largest bowl, 11.4 cm across and 9.5 cm tall.
The WAKI Matcha Bowl Gift Set adds a 200 ml cup, an 11.5 cm plate and a 40 × 30 cm tray to the WAKI set, packed in a gift box.

Making a bowl of matcha
- Soak the tines of the whisk in warm water for a minute so they soften.
- Warm the bowl with hot water, then pour it out and dry the bowl.
- Add one or two scoops of matcha and about 70 ml of water just off the boil, around 80 °C.
- Whisk quickly from the wrist in a zigzag for 15–20 seconds, until a fine foam forms.
- Drink from the bowl, or pour it over milk and ice for a matcha latte.
Choosing a teapot set
Start with how many people you usually make tea for. A 150–200 ml pot makes two or three small cups; a 260–500 ml pot serves a table. Every one of our teapots has a built-in strainer, so loose-leaf tea can go straight into the pot.
- Side-handle pots. The Pétro Teapot Set (200 ml, with two 120 ml cups, a saucer and a 28 × 19 cm tray, in a gift box) and the MistVeil Teapot Set (150 ml, with 70 ml cups, a 200 ml pitcher and two narrow trays). The side handle lets you pour with one hand.
- Top-handle pots. The Crème Glaze Pumpkin Tea Set (500 ml, with 130 ml cups) and the Japanese-style Brewing Tea Set (260 ml, with 45 ml cups and a 240 ml pitcher).
- Small cups for tasting. The Knot Brewing Tea Set pairs a 190 ml pot with three 35 ml cups; the Maroyaka Brewing Tea Set pairs a 160 ml pot with 45 ml cups, a 240 ml pitcher and a round tray.
- Keeping tea warm. The Kusa Steeping Set has a 325 ml pot, three 60 ml cups and a ceramic warmer base that holds a tealight under the pot. The tealight is not included.
A pitcher, sometimes called a fairness cup, lets you pour all the tea out of the pot at once so it stops steeping, then share it evenly between cups.

Brewing loose-leaf tea
- Warm the pot and cups with hot water, then pour it away.
- Add the leaves: roughly 3–5 g for a 150–200 ml pot.
- Pour in hot water. Green tea usually prefers water around 70–80 °C; black and oolong teas can take water close to boiling.
- Steep for about one to three minutes, depending on the tea, then pour everything out into the cups or the pitcher.
- Most leaves can be steeped again two or three times.
For boiling water, the 1-litre Suno Kettle comes with a tea filter; see our stainless steel tableware guide for our other kettles.
Care
- Ceramic teapots, cups and matcha bowls can go in the dishwasher. Do not put them directly on a flame or hob; heat water in a kettle instead.
- The Kusa warmer base is for a tealight only.
- The bamboo whisk and the tea scoop should be rinsed by hand and left to air-dry. Stand the whisk on its holder so the tines keep their shape.
